Jasmine Simmons (Orator)

Jasmine Simmons (Orator) 2

Ms. Jasmine Simmons is excited and honored to make her public debut as an orator in Requiem for Colour: A Journey through Lament and Joy at the Fisher Center for Performing Arts. She is no stranger to the power of storytelling, spoken word, and the arts.

The written word has always been a place to dream, reflect and express her hopes, joys and sorrows. As a young girl, she eagerly performed her original poetry before her childhood church congregation after weaving words while nestled by her mother’s side during the Sunday sermons. Ms. Simmons participated in public speaking and interpretation competitions at the high school and collegiate levels, advancing to national tournaments.

A series of very fortunate events led her to come work as a content writer for Belmont University’s Marketing and Communications Office in 2022. She considers herself blessed and highly favored to be able to spend her days meeting incredible members of Belmont’s vibrant community and sharing their individual and collective stories. In fact, it was as a content writer that she first met the tremendously kind and talented Jeffery Ames while assigned to tell the story of Requiem’s debut.

Ms. Simmons is passionate about supporting, serving and celebrating the young (and young-at-heart), gifted and Black members of her community. She is blown away by the creativity and passion of the student leaders of Belmont’s Black Students Association, for which she serves as a co-advisor.

Ms. Simmons is whole-heartedly convinced that her journey was orchestrated and led by God, out of the overflow of His ever-present love which has allowed her to fully live a life that is truly life. She is excited for all that comes next as she continues to build her life in Nashville.
